The small, relatively modern urbanisations of Nuevo Portil and El Portil lie between the fishing port/town of Punta Umbria in the east and the former fishing village of El Rompido in the west. 15km of unspoilt sandy beach, backed by pine forest, stretches along the coastline between Punta Umbria and El Rompido. The local beach of Nuevo Portil is protected by the Fleche del Rompido, a sandspit at the mouth of the Rio Pedras. Throughout the summer months a passenger ferry operates regular trips between the beach and the Fleche for those wishing to enjoy the peace and solitude of the spit.
A purpose built cycle path and walkway runs along the coast through the trees linking Nuevo Portil to Punta Umbria as well as Nuevo Portil to Huelva. Beach bars (Chiringuitos) are dotted along the coast between Nuevo Portil and Punta Umbria.
There are lots of lovely walks from the villa through the pine forests behind Nuevo Portil as well as around the Laguna del Portil.
There are a variety of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the villa. Some of which are open year round, others open at weekends only out of peak season.
There are also a number of small shops selling essential groceries as well as a good sized El Jamon supermarket locally. There is also the fantastic Mercado del Carmen in Huelva with over 100 stalls offering the freshest fish, meat, fruit and vegetables with a convenient car park directly above.
